Chance of a Lifetime

Courtney Creative StudioOpen Topics, Photography6 commentsNovember 10, 2013
This post is very dear to my heart. I had the honor of photographing this little guy named Chance, who I am proud to call my god son and nephew this past October. Chance is an extremely special little baby that brings me so much joy, faith and hope. If you don’t mind I would like to share his story with you and the inspiration behind this special photo shoot.

Baby Chance was born December 27, 2012 with an enlarged heart and underdeveloped lungs. One side of his heart was so large it was crushing his lungs and when his mother gave birth to him, unlike most babies he was not crying, in fact it was though he was sleeping. The doctor advised us more than once that he would not make it out of the womb alive and more than once that he would not make it once he was born because his heart and lungs were so weak. Our faith that God is a Healer and prayer were the only things we could lean on during this time of uncertainty and worry. This little bundle of joy is truly the manifestation of God’s promises and he is nothing short of a miracle. I have been forever changed by his existence because in him I see God’s grace and favor.

Though Chance has been in the hospital since he was born connected to tubes and machines to help him breathe, he always has a smile on his face. My desire was to capture Chance not as a sickly baby but as a baby who brings so much joy to those around him. God granted me the desires of my heart. It was the “Chance of a lifetime”!

Chance is absolutely adorable! I’m glad you captured the photo where his eyes are closed showing he feels the love. His response is like saying I know – it will be all right!

My Grandson was so special to many. We hurt and miss him so much and remaining strong for one another till the end. I know his story and lived it with him. Pray for everyone and mainfully for families with children who are critically ill. Our love shall carry them through.
